Ericsson is looking to provide new muscle to IPTV deployments with the announcement at NXTcomm in Las Vegas from the vendor of a 10 Gigabit passive optical networking system. There has been some speculation recently that GPON systems could migrate directly to WDM-PON, but 10 Gigabit PON could likely keep carriers on GPON a bit longer, as they gain more bandwidth for more IPTV-related offerings.
