ActiveVideo navigates Europe with Avinity buy

ActiveVideo Networks, a company that has been working in the area of interactive TV navigation for many years (also under its former name ICTV), announced that its is acquiring Avinity Systems, a like-minded vendor based in the Netherlands that should give ActiveVideo a nudge into more business opportunities with European TV service providers. ActiveVideo plans to move its current European office from the U.K. to Avinity's home in Hilversum.

Both companies use what Light Reading's Cable Digital News describes as a "cloud-like" approach to delivering interactive content, and they likely will be targeting applications such as "video-on-demand navigation, Web-sourced video, interactive advertising, and gaming." Both components also have a role to play in the emerging Tru2way interactive TV ecosystem for cable TV. ActiveVideo has worked with service providers such as IPTV pioneer PCCW in Hong Kong, Grande Communications in Texas, and others.
