Avail-TVN has named its first U.S. cable TV multiple system operator customer for its MPEG-4 linear video managed service offering. The company named Zito Media, an MSO with 10 systems serving 23,000 customers in Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

MPEG-4 can help service providers make more efficient use of their bandwidth, though telco TV providers have been quicker to move to MPEG-4 than cable TV operators, for the most part. Avail Media and TVN Entertainment merged last year.
