The Project Canvas hybrid TV/Internet joint venture involving the BBC, BT and others took a step forward this week, as the BBC Trust "provisionally approved" (in the words of InteractiveTV Today) broadcast giant BBC's role in the project. Next up, a consultation period will extend until Feb. 2, 2010, after which the BBC Trust will issue a final decision, likely in the spring of 2010.

It has been a long haul already to get this far--nearly 11 months--so by the time Canvas earns final approval, it will have been more than a year and hundreds of comments and responses since the BBC Trust first took up the issue. BSkyB, Virgin Media and other companies still oppose Project Canvas.
