Broadcast IPTV surges in South Korea

Korea Telecom and other carriers in South Korea had to clear hurdles related to regulatory issues and broadcaster usage agreements before they finally launched linear broadcast IPTV late last year. KT, LGDacom and SK Broadband have collected a combined total of more than 222,000 IPTV customers since then to augment the existing video on-demand customer bases that each service provider already had.

KT in particular has come a long way quickly after it experienced struggles forging content carriage agreements with national TV broadcasters in Korea.
