Brasil Telecom (BrT), has launched the  first commercial IPTV service in Brazil, TeleGeography relates.  BrT's new service, Videon, has launched only in Brasilia, but expansion plans are in the works.

BrT launched IPTV despite regulatory indecision about whether telephone companies should be allowed to offer video packages. BrT is said to be offering two types--a 500-hour fixed monthly package and a pay-per-view option.

BrT is the South American nation's third largest telephone operator, and launching an initiative despite regulatory uncertainty suggests a pressing need to adjust the business model. Things are tough all over.
