IPTV for cable? The topic keeps coming up, particularly as DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem termination systems offering cable TV companies increased capability to offer IPTV service through their CMTS platforms. However, as Light Reading's Cable Digital News reports, vendors such as BigBand Networks, Arris Group and others are marketing IPTV schemes in which the CMTS is bypassed, which they argue is a less expensive approach than moving IPTV through the CMTS. Either way, standards have yet to address the developing trend.
