According to a recent report from Heavy Reading, cable companies are bulking up their video offerings to better compete with the growing competition from telcos' IPTV services. The new services include more interactive features to the existing MPEG/QAM broadcast networks to better mimic the initial services the industry expects IPTV to bring. "MSOs have no near-term plans to swap out their existing infrastructure to adopt end-to-end IP, nor is this type of move immediately necessary," notes Heavy Reading's Sterling Perrin. The report also predicts cable MSOs will begin to deliver content to mobile devices and PCs.
