Canby moves from IP-Prime to EchoStar for HD

Oregon-based independent telco Canby Telcom is among the rural service providers moving to a new wholesale IPTV platform with the shutdown of IP-Prime. Multichannel News reported this week the telco will use EchoStar's ViP-TV transport service to support high-definition channel delivery to its headend.

The demise of SES Americom's IP-Prime service has been targeted for the end of July, and has sent telco customers of the offering scrambling in recent months to find a viable alternative. The HD move also is significant in that it may present vendors like EchoStar with a renewed market opportunity that SES Americom had found lacking in the small telco IPTV sector.
