CES 2009 - Verizon delivers HD, DVR updates

Tools

LAS VEGAS - Verizon Communications made two FiOS TV-related announcements at CES 2009 Thursday: The telco is now offering remote DVR scheduling features to subscribers of its Multi-room Home Media DVR service, and it also said that FiOS TV now offers 100 or more high-definition channels in every market throughout its 14-state service region. Verizon has been among the TV providers leading the charge with HD, along with the satellite TV companies.

The remote scheduling functions are available via the company's FiOS Central Web site or through downloadable software for a handful of Verizon Wireless mobile devices. Verizon actually has offered remote DVR programming from mobile devices before, but that capability was specifically for TiVo DVR users. FierceIPTV will be meeting with Verizon at CES on Friday, so look for an update to this story in the coming days.

when are consumers going to realize they are wasting money on 1080p resolution tvs unless they have fios- cable companies are so far behind and wont admit there lack of moving forward with technology;1080p does not exist with cable service so if you have cable dont waste money on a good television, it makes no sense cause the cable product doesnt have the capability; Your television might have a high resolution but it cant be achieved with cable; buying that great tv was a waste if you still have cable however consumers are not informed of this, they believe just by having a high resolution tv that they are getting high resolution ahen in fact cable is probably providing uyou with 420i lolol- good luck to cable companies in the future when they have to rip up all their lines just to catch up. I'll never go back- they should charge alot less cause the product is definately not up to par with fios. At the same time cable wants to keep comparing their product to an outdated online dsl service when they know they dont have the capabilities to come close to the speed of verizon fios highspeed internet- another fact cable wont tell you.
