CES: Bouygues goes with Verimatrix

Tools

In the first of what we hope will be several postings this week related to the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, we highlight an announcement from conditional access software vendor Verimatrix. The company is announcing at CES that France's Bouygues Telecom is deploying the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV.  Bouygues is using VCAS for IPTV to support content security for ADSL transmission of MPEG-4 live broadcast and on-demand video content delivered to the carrier's Bbox home gateway.

Bouygues Telecom launched the Bbox offering about three months ago and now delivers IPTV from two major head-ends in France. For Verimatrix, the Bouygues deal follows just two months after similar deployments with smaller-scale U.S. service providers Gtel Teleconnections and Pioneer Telephone. Verimatrix also has provided content security for the now short-lived IP-Prime wholesale service from SES Americom, though the vendor does have other wholesale partners, including Falcon and Avail Media.
