Comcast has decided to drop its Microsoft TV Foundation Edition set-top platform from its Seattle and other Washington state markets for an interactive program guide from Gemstar-TV Guide. The service provider already uses this application in all of its Motorola STB-based deployments. The MSO expects to complete its rollout of TV Guide's iGuide in the region by early September for its 1.1 million cable subscribers in the Washington State region. Comcast originally launched Redmond's Foundation platform in 2004 to serve as a showcase for the Washington State-based Microsoft. Its removal will mark the end of the Foundation Edition platform deployed by Comcast.
