DirecTV moves on MoCA, new set-tops

Tools

Satellite TV provider DirecTV seemed to pick its horse in the home networking race almost two years ago, when the company joined the Multimedia over Coax Alliance. Now, DirecTV is taking the next step forward with its home network strategy by going with MoCA chips from Entropic Communications. Satellite players have not been as quick as some telcos to explore their home networking options, but true to their legacy as a thorn in the side of the cable TV industry, DirecTV went with the technology that is most friendly to existing cable TV deployments. DirecTV has won cable TV customers over in various ways, and perhaps advanced home networking features will become its latest argument.

Meanwhile, DirecTV also reportedly is planning to roll out new set-top boxes by the end of the first quarter that are equipped with MoCA capabilities that will initially support a multi-room DVR service.

Direct TV is great but it can't give you over 3500 channels from around the world.
