Dish stay against TiVo patent extended, appeal proceeds

Tools

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has given Dish Network parent EchoStar a stay on a recent court order to disable the DVR functions on about 4 million set-top boxes. The satellite TV provider had earned a temporary stay last month the day after a Texas district court ruling found the company to have infringed on TiVo DVR patents. The new stay will keep Dish's DVR functions alive pending an appeals court consideration of the case that could come this fall.
