Ericsson adds IPTV security via Viaccess

Tools

Ericsson's IPTV efforts continue to take shape, the latest evolution being the addition of Viaccess as a security software partner in Ericsson's IP Multimedia Subsystems-based IPTV architecture. Ericsson continues to be distinct among the major network equipment suppliers in promoting an IPTV system supported within a broader IMS framework.

IMS proponents and suppliers of IMS gear have been frustrated as network operators, for the most part, have not committed to end-to-end framework adoption, preferring instead to deploy IMS components around specific applications they want to support. IPTV has not been among those applications yet (again, for the most part). Ericsson's take on IMS-based IPTV gained an endorsement this fall from Portugal's Sonaecom.
