Espial catches Ketchikan deployment

IPTV software vendor Espial Group announced that Alaska's KPU Telecommunications will be deploying the vendor's MediaBase video-on-demand software to support on-demand video options for its subscribers. KPU said Espial's integration with middleware from Nokia Siemens Networks was a key to Espial landing the deal.

The deployment comes more than three months after Espial, based in Ottawa, Canada, announced that it was seeking strategic advice on the future of the company, which is of course a line that often leads to a company being sold. Since that announcement, no other action has been taken.

KPU is the local triple-play service provider in Ketchikan, a city in Southern Alaska with a population of just under 7,400 people. Espial mostly has been known to work with smaller, independent service providers, though the company did last week announce a deployment with Greece's OTE, a telco with more than 3.5 million lines in service.

Espial acquired the MediaBase software a few years ago through the acquisition of early video software vendor Kasenna at a time when a wave of consolidation was sweeping through the video software sector.
