European IPTV market to double by 2009

According to a recent report from Screen Digest, the European IPTV market will nearly double, going from 2.9 million subscribers in 2006 to 5.6 million subs by 2009. Nearly 1 million of those subscribers will live in France. Subscription revenues from IPTV will increase from $470 million to more than $1 billion in the region. The top five IPTV service providers in Europe will remain on top during this year: Orange, Telefonica, Free Telecom, Neuf Telecom and Fastweb. The U.K. will experience the biggest growth overall in the region, according to the report, which predicts that subscriber numbers will grow from 80,000 to 300,000 by December.
