FCC collects responses to initial comments in retransmission debate

The Federal Communications Commission is a step closer to its review of cable TV retransmission consent rules after cable TV companies this week filed their responses to the initial comments of broadcasters and other content parties.

So far, there have been no surprises, as the programming distributors continue to call for reform of a model that has resulted in their customers sometimes being threatened with programming black-outs, while content companies look to protect what has been a very broad revenue stream for them.

The retransmission fight, much like the objections the broadcast industry has lodged against TV viewing apps for tablet PCs, is the broadcast industry's way of reminding pay TV operators who really is in charge of the ecosystem.
