FiOS doesn't scare cable

Tools

Cable executives aren't coming undone over Verizon FiOSTV, according to reports that emerged from last week's Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference in New York. Comcast chief operating officer, Steve Burke speculated about the viability of FiOSTV, which he said had reached only about 5 percent of Comcast markets.

Sanford Bernstein Senior Analyst Craig Moffett also pooh-poohed FiOS, predicting it would reach just 15 percent of TV households in five years; and AT&T's U-verse, 23 percent. Cablevision is predicted to have the most overlap with the FiOSTV footprint, at 79 percent. (See FiOS Penetration by 2012)

Overbuilders like RCN are considered most vulnerable, providing a buffer of sorts for incumbent cable operators, aka the ones who've been laughing at the idea of telcoTV for 20 years. That it's even a subject of an investor conference means the cable industry is taking it seriously. Very seriously.

for all you dummies out there who purchase new tvs expecting to watch 1080p-you will never even be able to watch 1080p through cable; it doesnt exist with cable; you need fios cable doesnt not tell you this tho- so if you own cable good luck wasting money on tv performance you will never use!!!!!! LOLOL
Cable can keep comparing themselves to dsl- yes they are faster as an online service; however this is an old verizon product and cable cannot compare to verizon fios high speed internet- it is much slower yet by comparing themselves to an outdated product they fool you into believing they have the fastest product out there. ask your cable company if there internet speeds are faster than fios, if they say yes they are lying. To sum it, cable is like a 1 lane highway under the ground while fios is like a 12 lane highway; plenty more room for the future; good luck cable companies ripping up your cables in the future to compete with fios once the customers are fully aware how far behind you actually are.
