Hitachi, Falcon take IPTV rural
Hitachi and Falcon released plans Wednesday to bring IPTV service to rural providers with a "bird-to-box" solution. The joint effort will allow MPEG-4 service to reach remote areas, one step in IPTV becoming more of a mainstream offering.
The cable bundle offered through the service will feature 32 channels in HD, in addition to 180 standard-def channels, and more music and local channels.
The offering will leverage Hitachi's AMN1220 Gigabit Passive Optical Network Fiber to the Premises Solution with Falcon's "bird-to-box" solution to reach customer bases currently unable to receive IPTV because of location in rural areas.
Falcon will handle the content delivery, from satellite, to installation, to service using Hitachi's fiber network technology. Falcon offers flexible channel offerings to regional providers to meet local demands.
