Joost gets Viacom content

Tools

Media leviathan Viacom has put the creators of Skype's latest P2P TV venture, Joost, on the map with a major content deal. Viacom properties, including MTV, Comedy Central and Showtime will provide content to the P2P servicer according to the deal, which came about just days after Viacom and YouTube ended their talks for distribution rights. Analysts say that the Joost-Viacom announcement is a strategic play for Viacom to flex its muscle around YouTube and its parent company, Google. YouTube, meanwhile, is eager to sign a major television network.
