Kudelski Group didn't take much of a break from deal-making after recently finalizing its acquisition of OpenTV. The company announced this week that it has acquired Medialive, a French firm focused on the increasingly important area of content protection.

Kudelski said in a press release that it will combine its existing assets in conditional access with Medialive's encryption and watermarking technology. Verimatrix, Cinea and Civolution are among the other companies with similar technology, Civolution having acquired some of its technology from Thomson earlier this year.

Switzerland's Kudelski last month won over OpenTV shareholders after a long and turbulent courtship. Kudelski also owns Nagravision.
