Motorola: 45% of Europeans watch TV online

Tools

A new study from Motorola concluded that some 45 percent of Europeans living in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain choose to watch TV online. Many of the articles covering this study claim that the study found that 45 percent of Europeans watch IPTV, which seems misleading to me since the report specifically indicated online TV or TV shows viewed over the Internet from a PC. Motorola said the metric is an indication of Europeans' desire to watch television on their own schedule, since most online TV is on demand. The report found slight variation from country to country: 59 percent of France's citizens tune into TV online, while 48 percent of Italians do. The report also predicts that by 2012, 45 percent of households will be making video calls from their televisions.
