Motorola has signed a definitive agreement with Tut Systems to acquire the company in a deal worth approximately $39 million. Tut develops encoding, processing and distribution products that support both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compression, local ad insertion, forward error correction and real-time conditioning of video and audio. Tut counts 160 service providers worldwide as its clients. Motorola plans to use Tut's technology to help service providers deploy video services over IP, ATM and RF-based architectures. Tut will join the Motorola Connected Home Solutions Team.
