MWC: Envivio touts multi-screen on-demand platform
Multi-screen advances could loom large at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, and at least one vendor who regularly makes IPTV news, Envivio, has already submitted its contribution. Envivio has announced Envivio On Demand, which among many functions transcodes video content recorded on a PVR and stores it for later viewing on other devices, such as mobile phones or PCs.
"Smartphones and PCs are quickly becoming equals to the TV when it comes to consumer entertainment," said Boris Felts, vice president of marketing for Envivio in a press release. "Envivio On Demand solutions give broadcast and IPTV operators the opportunity to extend their services to these other screens using the content that people want most--the programs they have chosen to record."
Mobile TV offerings from mobile service providers have appeared to take a step forward in recent months, so content transcoding techniques long touted by Envivio and others may come to the forefront as TV service providers focused on residential consumers look to hang on to viewers after they leave the living room.
