MWC: Ericsson displays Android TV remote

Tools

Mobile World Congress is going on this week in Barcelona, and for the real blow-by-blow coverage, you should head over to FierceWireless, but we couldn't help mentioning a few announcements we've seen popping up that have IPTV implications. One of those is a new Android-based touchscreen TV remote control from Ericsson. The remote has a 10-inch screen on which content icons or icons for larger channel groups can be arranged in various orders. To choose a channel, you drag the icon to the top of the remote.

The screen size (you can see a photo in the link below) also means the remote itself can be used as a TV or video sampler. It's clear from the IDG story that Ericsson is still working out the details, though it sounds like the Android remote would be offered through IPTV and other TV service providers.

We've said before that Android isn't just for phone anymore, and Ericsson's remote control is the latest product to showcase the possibilities.
