NC ILEC taps Clearfield for FTTH build

North Carolina's Surry Telephone, which a year ago rolled out triple-play services with support from Allied Telesis, is taking another big step, announcing today that it's deploying Clearfield's FieldSmart platform for fiber management and protection needs in an extensive FTTH build.

The member-owned cooperative said the deployment will allow it to bring enhanced broadband services to its membership base, as well as allow it to expand services into a CLEC serving area.

Surry is using an active electronics deployment model in its ILEC serving area and a GPON architecture for its CLEC operations.

"The configurability of Clearfield's FieldSmart platform is allowing us to contain our spending and reduce costs during the build-out of this project," said Surry's chief engineer Richie Parker.
