The National Telecommunications & Information Administration expects to have the backlog of coupon requests for the digital TV transition program thinned out within the next few weeks, according to Multichannel News. There were 4.2 million requests on the waiting list recently, but the NTIA reports that number of requests is now down to 3.4 million, and that they are being processed at the rate of about 400,000 per business day.

Getting about $650 million from the economic stimulus package helped move the coupon program into high gear. However, the NTIA is not yet ready to handle any re-applications for DTV coupons that had previously expired. The DTV transition date is now set for June 12.
