OpenTV revenues rise but net loss increases

Losses widened at OpenTV, the San Francisco company specializing in interactive TV middleware. OpenTV closed its second quarter June 30 with a net loss of $4.9 million on revenues of $24.3 million, compared to a loss of $2.5 million on revenues of $23.7 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Middleware and integrated technologies revenue increased by 9 percent to $20 million over the same quarter last year, while applications revenue fell 11 percent to $4.2 million. Revenues from the gambling software division, Bettingcorp, also fell, from $700,000 to $100,000. Royalties and license revenues fell 4 percent to $14.1 million, compared; services and other revenues increased 13 percent to $10.2 million.

The company finished the quarter with $74.1 million in cash and $32.8 million in deferred revenues.
