In spite of an overall decline in video subscribers in the second quarter, pay-TV service providers actually saw an increase in "revenue-generating units" because of expanding broadband and telephony subscribers, according to a new report. The IHS Research report said the number of U.S. households subscribing to pay television video services declined nearly 370,000 in the second quarter, despite strong growth from AT&T (NSYE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ). Total U.S. pay-TV video subscriptions in the second quarter decreased to 100.6 million, down from 101 million in the first quarter, only the third time in history that the U.S. pay-TV video market has suffered a sequential quarterly decline.
