PCCW, Kalimat form IPTV JV

Tools

Hong Kong's PCCW and Iraq's Kalimat Telecom have created a 50/50 joint venture that aims to launch IPTV and other services in Iraq and Kuwait beginning in the fourth quarter of this year or soon after. The companies have set a goal for the JV to collect 600,000 subscribers during its first two years of business, according to a report at CommsMEA.

PCCW is one of the world's IPTV pioneers, and amid controversy over its ownership structure last year--it is now proceeding with a privatization plan--the company also was seeking to extend its ambitions outside of Hong Kong. Iraq currently gets along mostly on satellite TV service.
