Qwest Communications reported fourth-quarter earnings Tuesday that included an increase in video subscribers of about 37,000, which contributed to a a 9 percent Internet and video revenue increase in its mass market sector. The figure includes growth in customers gained from the telco's partnership with satellite TV player DirecTV. Qwest, of course, has opted not to pursue its own, dedicated TV network and service, instead focusing on fiber-to-the-node investments that will boost its network's video handling capabilities. The telco decided last year to end its long-standing, but isolated, Choice TV offering. The phase-out of Choice TV, and the wooing of those customers to DirecTV or other services, is likely to extend through this year.
