Reliance to launch IPTV by end of 2008

Indian service provider Reliance Comm has announced plans to launch an IPTV service by the end of 2008. The initial launch will include 10 Indian cities, including four metropolitan areas. The launch date puts Reliance at a considerable disadvantage to its rivals: By then Tata and Bharti Airtel would have already launched their network; MTNL has already launched IPTV and BSNL is on the verge of launching theirs. Since Reliance is so late to the game, there's been little talk about their content holdings. Pundits believe Reliance is still not convinced that IPTV will bring considerable revenue to the company, but analysts predict that the APAC IPTV market will cross the $3 billion mark by 2013, up from $353.4 million last year.
