RTEC Communications deploys GoBackTV
IPTV over cable is an increasingly popular concept, as evidenced by last week's IP cable product announcement from BigBand Networks. This week, RTEC Communications, the 19-year-old cable TV subsidiary of 105-year-old telco Ridgeville Telephone Company of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, said it has deployed IPTV services over its hybrid fiber coax cable TV network. The deployment uses GoBackTV's GigaQAM IP cable IPTV solution.
GigaQAM allows RTEC to use the same set-top boxes, middleware and conditional access gear that are used by its parent firm in Ridgville Telephone's own ongoing fiber-to the-home IPTV network.
