Beleaguered Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM), the Canadian firm behind the BlackBerry smartphone, may be jumping into the over-the-top set-top box market.

A report in NerdbBerry.net said the company will roll out a box similar to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) TV this fall.

The site said the box, codenamed Cyclone, will be able to stream Netflix as well as media from devices connected to a common Wi-Fi network. NerdBerry.net also said the device would have an HDMI-out port.

The media hub, the site said, will run on the same software and hardware group as RIM's Playbook tablet and will integrate with BlackBerry handsets.
