Sezmi launches pilot, raises funding

Tools

Sezmi, the hybrid video player that started with the aim of partnering with telcos to support its content management service and get its set-top boxes deployed, has raised $25 million and launched a direct-to-consumer free trial of its service in Los Angeles. At CES 2009 earlier this year, Sezmi conducted a live demonstration and the company also reportedly had been involved in a trial in Seattle--though no mention of that trial was made in reports about the new Los Angeles effort.

Existing investors, such as Morgenthaler Ventures, Omni Capital and others, contributed to the latest funding round, and the company reportedly still plans for a broader expansion sometime next year.
