RF over Glass was one of the more interesting technologies to emerge in the last year, promising to help cable TV operators leverage some of their traditional infrastructure in a new architecture that brings fiber closer to customers than in existing hybrid fiber-coax networks. Though cable TV operator adoption has been perceived to be minimal so far as the industry awaits a formal RFOG standard, vendor Alloptic already is claiming several network operators wins. The vendor says it has 44 RFOG customers of all sizes, though its only announced deployments so far have been with smaller cable TV firms such as BendBroadband, MidContinent Communications and others.
