SureWest adds TV caller ID

Independent telco SureWest Communications has become the latest TV service provider to add TV-based caller ID to its line-up of IPTV features. The launch is happening in the California-based carrier's Kansas City market. On-screen call notification occurs via a small pop-up window at the bottom of the TV screen displaying the caller name and phone number, and users can decide whether to answer or ignore. The new feature is being made available for free for customers of SureWest's triple-play service plan, though it may cost other customers $9.99 per month.

This feature has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially among small telcos and cable TV provider in rural markets.
