SureWest EBIFs its Everest network

SureWest Communications, the Roseville, Calif., telco that jumped out early with IPTV over a fiber-to-the-home network, is now jumping out early again by deploying a new CableLabs interactive TV specification on its Everest Broadband network in Kansas City. The Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) creates a uniform technical environment in which various kinds of interactive TV and targeted advertising applications can run on so-called "thin client" set-top boxes. Verizon also has reportedly used EBIF in the past, and it sound like it could become more popular with the rise of truly interactive TV services.
