Telco TV poised to pass cable telephony

U.S. telco TV subscriber numbers should surpass cable telephony subscribers in 2009 for the first time, according to research from Stifel Nicolaus. Telephony reports that in 2008, the two largest telcos added 1.8 million video customers, while the four largest cable operators signed up almost 4.8 million voice subscribers. However, cable telephony progress has been sliding in recent quarters, while telco video thus far has proved to be fairly recession proof.
