IPTV video-on-demand (VoD) system and middleware firm Espial announced at the TelcoTV 2009 event in Orlando this week that Canadian independent telco Sogetel of Quebec is deploying Espial's EVO TV service platform and Espial MediaBase to support capabilities such as HDTV, VoD and DVR-like time-shifted TV. Sogetel, according to an Espial press release, has grown in recent years through acquisition to reach about 32,000 customers, and this initial IPTV foray will address about 1,000 of them.

Meanwhile, it turned out to be a busy week for Ottawa, Canada-based Espial, which also announced four more U.S. customers for MediaBase: LeRu Telephone, Granby Telephone, Seneca Telephone and McDonald County Telephone. These deals came via Espial U.S. reseller partner Power & Telephone Supply Co (Power & Tel).

Finally, yet another Espial customer announcement came out of the Netherlands, as Tele2 said it would use the EVO TV platform for a planned upgrade of its existing IPTV service.
