Telus TV gains 22,000 subscribers

Canadian telco Telus has joined the ranks of telco TV providers posting strong TV subscriber growth in the third quarter. The carrier brought in 22,000 new TV subscribers for the quarter, and now has 137,000 overall. That's growth of 83 percent over the last year, and also stronger forward movement that in the second quarter this year, when Telus added 17,000 IPTV customers.

Telus officials also said, however, that the success of the TV offering meant that programming and customer acquisition costs also are on the rise.

The company mentioned that acceptance of satellite TV had been strong since Telus began offering the option earlier this year through a resale deal with Bell Canada Enterprises, but they did not break out specific satellite TV subscriber numbers during the earnings call.
