Time Warner CEO Bewkes offers Netflix a peace offering

Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) CEO Jeff Bewkes had some nice words for Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) during a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York Wednesday. Really.

Bewkes is recent months has been less than civil in recent months, in December pooh-poohing Netflix's threat to major media companies, telling The New York Times, "It's a little bit like, is the Albanian army going to take over the world? I don't think so." (To which Netflix CEO Reed Hastings responded by having faux Albanian Army dog tags made to wear.)

But during this week's Q&A, Bewkes expressed a "fondness" for Netflix.

"I do have a fondness for subscription television, and Netflix is subscription television," he said. "So, welcome, brother!"

The comment drew laughs from attendees.

Bewkes also said that Netflix push into original programming-the company has signed one deal for political drama House of Cards, and said in an earnings release that it would look at two or three more projects this year-shows that the company wants to be more like another subscription service, HBO.

"We think it's great that they are doing that," he said.
