Toledo Telephone Co. of Toledo, Wash., is one of many small independent telcos that have turned away from investing in an IPTV architecture and brand, and instead have tried to exploit the full video potential of their existing broadband architectures via partnerships. The company, which has about 2,300 customers, has partnered with Vudu to offer over-the-top Internet video to its DSL subscribers, a relationship touted by Toledo chief operating officer Dale Merten when he spoke at last fall's TelcoTV 2008 event in Anaheim, Calif. Telephony this week has a story on how much Toledo saved by taking that route instead of investing in IPTV.
