Verizon FiOS TV adds 299,000 subs in Q1
Verizon reported strong growth for its FiOS IPTV offering its first-quarter financial results Monday, as the company now has 2.2 million subscribers to the service. Verizon added 299,000 new FiOS TV customers in the quarter, just slightly fewer than the 303,000 it added in the fourth quarter of 2008. The company reported $1.3 billion in revenues from broadband and video services.
On the company's earnings call, CFO John Killian said entry into new urban markets such as Washington D.C. and Philadelphia will continue to drive revenue and subscriber growth for FiOS TV in 2009. Verizon is banking on FiOS offsetting some of its continued wireline losses; Verizon's local phone connections fell by 10.4 percent, and wireline revenues were off 3.8 percent for the quarter.
