Caller ID has been available via the TV screen since the first half of this decade--if you were lucky enough to be a customer of one of the cable TV companies or independent telcos that offered it. The biggest telco TV players, AT&T and Verizon Communications, are only just now getting around to supporting the application. AT&T announced on-screen caller ID last month, and Verizon finally joined the club this week.

The new free feature was launched to FiOS TV subscribers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Texas who also have the FiOS voice service. The feature works much like other on-screen caller ID apps, by displaying incoming call information.
