Verizon's Philly FiOS adventure begins

Verizon Communications last week began construction on its FiOS network expansion in Philadelphia, a project that is expected to take about seven years to be fully completed, and will gradually introduce Verizon as the new TV service option in the home market of cable TV provider Comcast.

Verizon's bid to enter the market with FiOS got bogged down in city government processes for a while before the telco gained franchise approval in February.
