Russian telco VimpelCom has announced the availability of its Beeline IPTV service, which comes about one year after the company said its subsidiary, Corbina Telecom, was working with Microsoft on a trial of IPTV over the vendor's Mediaroom platform. At that point a launch seemed imminent, and it is not immediately clear why it took this long for a follow through.

The Beeline brand represents a sizable opportunity for IPTV growth, as it currently has more than 800,000 broadband subscribers in Russia alone. VimpelCom has about 57.8 million subscribers total in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The new service will have 125 channels, about 3,000 on-demand titles and PVR functionality, among other features.
