Welcoming the widget

Telephony has a report on the progress of TV widgets, looking at parallel effort by TV service providers like Verizon Communication and Internet and consumer electronics giants. While TV widgets are fairly primitive and limited in number for now, Verizon said it aims to eventually have thousands of TV widgets running over FiOS TV. But as TV service providers, Internet giants and TV makers create more widget-friendly environments and navigational approaches, the real pressure will be on widget developers, whom the bigger companies will be seeking out as partners.
