Broadband equipment vendor Zyxel Communications has announced a residential broadband gateway using bonded ADSL2+ technology and wireless 802.11n distribution. Wireless distribution inside the broadband home is nothing new, but 802.11n-based IPTV systems emerging within the last year or so are better poised to handle the job than traditional WiFi gear based on previous standards. Bonded ADSL2+ dramatically ups the bandwidth requirements that any in-home wireless system would need to meet. While Ovum said this week that DSL-based IPTV deployments may be slowing worldwide as more telcos make fiber investments, ADSL2+ in particular has been seen by many as a viable IPTV solution.
